Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For permanent appointment or reassignment for NYSED employees, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Secretary 2 OR reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title OR be a current NYS employee eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
70.1 Transfer
To be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-13 or above deemed eligible for transfer.
Candidates must also be able to pass a typing proficiency exam.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of P-12 Education is seeking candidates to fill the position of Secretary 2 in the Office of Student Support Services (SSS). This Office promotes school improvement by focusing on social and emotional development and learning through programs, services and activities related to Pupil Personnel, School and Student Health, Expanded Learning Opportunities, Safe Schools and Alternative Education. The SSS Office also oversees the Child Nutrition Program Office and the Office of Early Learning. Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner, the incumbent of this position will perform a variety of duties including establishing office procedures, designing and maintaining office filing systems, resolving day-to-day operational challenges, coordinating flow of information and acting as liaison to staff. Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manage the calendar for the Assistant Commissioner, which involves scheduling many high priority meetings and rescheduling on short notice;
• Make travel arrangements and prepare expense reports for the Assistant Commissioner;
• Review all travel and procurement requests for Assistant Commissioner approval;
• Serve as a team leader for the Offices of SSS, Child Nutrition and Early Learning;
• Establish office procedures and communication protocols;
• Provide technical assistance to callers and direct phone calls to the appropriate office;
• Coordinate telephone coverage for other units;
• Assign, track and ensure timely responses to requests for information and assignments from the Regents and the Commissioner's Office;
• Prepare PowerPoint presentations for Regents meetings and other public forums; and
• Prepare letters, documents and reports, including formatting, proofreading, and distribution.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $56,632 based on annual performance advances.
