Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher AND a valid NYS Teaching Certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences, Technology Education, or Business and Marketing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
• A valid NYS Teacher of the Deaf certification or Special Education certification;
• Familiarity with Response to Intervention; and
• Knowledge of administering and scoring New York State Assessments.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $62,360-79,501 based on annual performance advances.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Deaf is seeking applicants to fill an Instructor position in one of the Career and Technical Education course areas. Major responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Instruct students in one of the Career and Technical Education course certification areas: Family and Consumer Sciences, Technology Education, or Business and Marketing;
• Prepare daily lesson plans, learning units and instructional materials based on curriculum standards, course outlines and associated assessments developed by the New York State Education Department;
• Conduct classroom instruction using current teaching methods, observations and facilitation, as well as computer technology skills, audiovisual equipment, and group projects as appropriate;
• Work collaboratively with Special Education Assistants in our career preparation areas;
• Work with administration and career preparation personnel to develop a comprehensive occupational education sequence at the commencement level;
• Evaluate and assess student progress and involvement in the learning process through classroom observation, test administration, work assignment correction, and grading systems use such as rubrics;
• Manage and maintain order and discipline in the classroom and on campus;
• Assist students in reaching personal goals as defined in their Individual Education Program (IEPs);
• Supervise after-school detention as required;
• Prepare evaluation reports, report cards and deficiency notices;
• Write quarterly progress reports and IEPs for all students;
• Maintain daily attendance records; and
• Participate in departmental staff, parent, and multidisciplinary team meetings, and meetings of various committees to discuss students’ learning progress, behavior, needs and other problems related to education.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. This will be a permanent, 10-month position.
