Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have a master’s degree in psychology and be enrolled in a New York State accredited psychology doctorate program.
Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This position will involve providing psychological services to individuals who are eligible for OPWDD services. Service provision could take place at a campus based setting or in the community. The setting will vary depending on the location of the internship.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, the intern will assist psychology staff in the performance of psychology related duties which may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Work directly with individuals receiving services; teaching adaptive skills, engaging in therapeutic activities that support the individual achieving their valued outcomes, attending community activities.
• Assist with the administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychological tests.
• Write psychological evaluation reports that summarize the findings from a psychological assessment/evaluation.
• Accompany staff psychologists assigned to perform clinical interviews or evaluations in other settings such as secure settings or hospitals.
• Complete Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and author a report of findings.
• Attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meeting.
• Assist with the development of treatment and/or behavior support plans.
• Present plans to a team or committee such as the human rights committee or forensic advisory committee.
• Lead or co-lead individual, family and group counseling/therapy sessions.
• Provide psycho-education to family members and promote family involvement.
• Use crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation techniques as appropriate.
• Author reports and clinical notes.
• Adhere to OPWDD policies and procedures and ensure the protection of individual rights, especially their right to be free from abuse or harm.
Candidates must have the ability to work with individuals who have various abilities, disabilities, histories, and cultural backgrounds.
Candidates must understand the APA Code of Ethics.
