Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For permanent appointment to Education Program Assistant 1 or reassignment for NYSED employees, candidates must have 1 year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Education Program Assistant 1.
For permanent appointment to Education Trainee 1, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Agency Program Aide or an Administrative Aide OR be reachable on the New York State Education Department’s Public Administration Trainee Transition (PATT) eligible list, the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) eligible list, or the Public Management Intern (PMI) list. Transfer candidates and appointees from the PATT, PMI, or PCO lists must serve a two-year traineeship that leads to the Grade 14 salary level.
§70.4 Transfer
A candidate may be eligible for nomination for §70.4 transfer to Education Trainee 1 if they are currently a New York State employee AND have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-09 or higher AND have a standing on the PCO eligible list or the PMI eligible list.
Employees of ACCES-VR who are currently in an Education Program Assistant 1 position and are interested in transferring to the location listed on this flyer MUST apply for the position as outlined in the Application section of this flyer.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services (ACCES) is seeking to fill an Education Program Assistant 1 position in the Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS). The incumbent will be part of the Education Unit, and will work as part of a team with staff from both the New York City and Albany offices. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Supervisor of Educational Programs and will review and approve or certify documents from career schools and English as a Second Language (ESL) schools. Other duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Review school enrollment agreements and catalogs for licensed schools, and communicate both deficiencies and required revisions prior to approval;
• Review applications for ESL schools and communicate both deficiencies and required revisions prior to certification;
• Review and approve curriculum renewal applications and curriculum amendments;
• Conduct licensing presentations at semi-annual Directors' Courses and at various technical training workshops;
• Enter newly licensed schools with allied health programs into the Health Care Registry;
• Add and/or update allied health personnel in the Health Care Registry;
• Respond to written correspondence, e-mails, and telephone inquiries; and
• Assist with data collection for Freedom of Information Law requests and requests from other state and federal agencies.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Limited in-state travel will be required.
The salary listed above applies to candidates appointed to Education Program Assistant 1, SG-14. The hiring rate for candidates appointed to Education Trainee 1 starts at $35,535, and for current New York State employees, is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Candidates hired into a traineeship will be advanced to Education Program Assistant 1 upon successful completion of a two-year traineeship.
