Minimum Qualifications NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Senior Attorney (G-25); OR a NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at Grade 23 or above with current NYS Bar Admission and eligible for transfer to Senior Attorney under Sections 70.4 or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. (Candidates requesting consideration for transfer must also be a graduate of an accredited law school with a LLB or JD degree, and may also need to meet additional experiential conditions to qualify for consideration.)
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate should be a highly motivated individual interested in working in public service as part of an active legal team. Preferred qualifications include strong research and writing skills, eager to learn new subject areas, demonstrated sound judgment, excellent oral communication skills; and capable of handling high-volume activities in a deadline-driven environment.
Duties Description This position is in the Bureau of House Counsel within the Division of Legal Affairs. The Senior Attorney will work with the Department’s Office of Health Emergency Preparedness, as well as other offices within the Department, that plan for and respond to emergent issues in public health. The incumbent may also be required to provide legal services to other Department of Health program areas. Legal services include but are not limited to: providing oral and written counsel to program staff; developing regulations, contracts and memoranda of understanding; and drafting and reviewing legislation. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate. The incumbent will also attend meetings and provide legal advice to committees and councils, and communicate well with clients and members of the public.
