Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or a related field and two years post degree laboratory experience in genomics, molecular genetics or molecular biology; or a Master’s degree in genomics, molecular genetics or molecular biology and one year of professional research experience in that field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree plus three years of laboratory experience in genomics, molecular genetics or molecular biology. Experience in DNA/RNA purification, DNA amplification, DNA sequencing and analysis of DNA sequencing data. Experience developing and documenting laboratory procedures and familiarity with quality control standards for diagnostic laboratories.

Duties Description The Research Scientist 1 will participate in all aspects of next-generation sequencing of bacteria and viruses in a public health core laboratory setting. This includes DNA/RNA purification, library preparation, operation and maintenance of sequencing equipment, monitoring sequencing data quality and communication of results with core facility users. Participation in studies to develop and implement novel sequencing methods for technically challenging genomes.

Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, fulltime. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent re-assignment of this position, satisfactory background checks may also be required.
