Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must be eligible to transfer under section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. Candidates must have at least one year of permanent competitive or 55 b/c service in a qualifying title allocated to a grade 23 or higher. Qualified candidates must hold a Juris Doctorate degree and be admitted to the Bar to practice law in New York State.
Duties Description Incumbent will be primarily assigned to issue resolution in the Adjudication Division. The Senior Attorney will be responsible for reviewing case files and preparing and issuing proposed decisions under WCL Section 25 and Section 23. Such review and drafting will require articulating the issue(s) raised, reviewing documents in the Board's files, ascertaining the facts, performing legal research, applying the law to the facts, and proposing a resolution in a proposed decision following a standardized format. The Senior Attorney will also prepare revised decisions following objections by parties or when the Board Panel recommends technical corrections, amendments or rescissions of the proposed decision. The Senior Attorney will preside at conciliation meetings and Pre Hearing Conferences. Upon occasion the incumbent may also be involved in special legal projects on various issues concerning the application of Workers' Compensation Law, give presentations, Continuing Legal Education lectures, legal summaries, etc.
