Minimum Qualifications Current NYS Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive status as a Program Research Specialist 3 (G23) OR a NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive service in a title at or above a G21 and deemed eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the NYS Civil Service Law.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in epidemiology, research design, and program evaluation in a public health program. Experience with data collection methods and data analysis using epidemiologic principles and methodologies. Experience using SAS or other statistical packages, MS Access or other relational databases, and Excel. Excellent organizational skills as well as oral, and written communication skills.

Duties Description The Program Research Specialist 3-Public Health (PRS 3) will provide data management and analytic support to the Division’s Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review efforts. The PRS 3 will analyze, and interpret maternal death data; provide continuous oversight of data input to assess the quality of the data; assess and utilize maternal death data to identify areas for improvement and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies in improving outcomes. The PRS 3 will also assist in the analysis, interpretation and presentation of maternal morbidity data. The PRS 3 will utilize developed measures to track progress toward improvements in selected indicators as identified by program staff, review the data analysis, develop reports and conclusions and coordinate efforts with the expert Maternal Mortality Review workgroup to develop opportunities for improvement and coordinate efforts in conjunction with Division leadership.

Additional Comments Permanent, full-time appointment. Occasional travel, including over nights and travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation, is required.
