Minimum Qualifications Four years of full time experience under a journey-level electrician which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in electrical work or training gained by the completion of technical courses in electrical work at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.
Duties Description The General Mechanic at this location performs journey level work in the primary trade of electrical and performs skilled and semiskilled levels of work in carpentry, plumbing, and masonry in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. The incumbent will be responsible for upgrading the electric in campsites and cabins within the park. Daily supervision of other permanent and seasonal staff will be required along with training of such staff. Project planning, lay out procedures, blueprint reading, purchasing and overall coordination of assigned projects will be part of the duties of the position. Working knowledge of the safe operation of hand and stationary shop tools is essential. The work involves medium to heavy manual labor and the ability to operate and maintain a variety of equipment including dump truck & trailer for the transport of materials and equipment, aerial truck, loaders and similar construction equipment.
Additional Comments Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
Must possess a NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or obtain one within the probationary period at his/her own expense as a term and condition of employment.***
Candidate must be available to work weekends and variable hours as needed.
***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
