Minimum Qualifications Successful completion of a NYS two-year Plumber & Steamfitter Traineeship or NYS two-year plumbing training program; OR successful completion of any equivalent plumbing two-year training or apprenticeship program;* OR four (4) years of full-time experience in plumbing under a skilled journey-level plumber which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training in plumbing or training gained by completion of technical courses in plumbing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

* Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific class room instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.

Duties Description Under the supervision of a Supervising Plumber and Steamfitter or other higher level supervisor, the Plumber and Steamfitter may be engaged in the performance of the following skilled tasks and/or activities at day-use areas, picnic areas, parking fields, buildings and equipment, etc.

1. Maintenance and repair or rebuilding of existing plumbing fixtures and systems;
2. maintenance of heating systems;
3. maintenance and repair of septic systems;
4. diagnoses and repairs of existing oil and gas burners, hot water, hot air and steam systems;
5. plans, lays out and installs new plumbing fixtures according to applicable plumbing codes and regulations;
6. performs winterization and closing down of plumbing systems;
7. performs reactivation and starting up of plumbing systems for operating season;
8. operates light trucks, passenger vehicles, tractors and other equipment as required;
9. performs installation, maintenance and repair of water fountains and irrigation systems;
10. plans, lays out and installs oil burners, hot air and steam systems;
11. conducts inspections of facilities/equipment and makes recommendations for repairs or replacements to supervisor.
12. supervises and trains subordinate staff as assigned in the use of small hand tools that are utilized in the maintenance of plumbing and heating systems; including any specialized trade machinery, equipment and/or materials;
13. loads, moves, carries or unloads materials of varying weights and sizes as required in the performance of the duties described.
14. submits recommendations to supervisor for tools/materials needed in the performance of duties as described; maintains inventory and stock control;
15. assembles materials, tools and equipment required to complete the work according to plans; which include working from architectural blueprints and specifications;
16. conducts inspections of assigned area for safety hazards, corrects problems where possible and makes requests for appropriate skilled trades assistance when needed.
17. performs installation of Reduced Pressure Zone, (RPZ) and testing of backflow preventers;
18. performs other related duties as required.

date of appointment as a term and condition of employment.

- Ability to lift, carry and move equipment and/or materials of different weights and sizes
