Candidates must have permanently served at least one year as a Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
In addition, you must have a current Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification(CRCC) certificate; OR a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, including a supervised internship from a Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) accredited program; OR a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or counseling and notice of eligibility to sit for the CRCC certificate examination
Duties Description The incumbent of this position will primarily be responsible for directing a revitalized return to work program at the WCB, and be directly charged with handling the coordination of return to work efforts with other state and federal agencies. There would also be an emphasis on initiating and implementing statewide policies and educational initiatives for employers, including the State of New York. Additionally they will have oversite and supervisory responsibilities in select districts, for the vocational rehabilitation of persons with disabling physical and/or mental handicaps to obtain and retain optimum employment. Duties would also include, but not be limited to: Evaluating the need for and developing rehabilitation services for severely injured workers; coordinating and expediting rehabilitation services needed by severely industrially injured workers under the District Office jurisdiction; providing direct counseling and job placement services to claimants in the absence of suitable vocational agencies; using knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Law and rehabilitation procedures when attending hospital, agency and educational workshops to advance Rehabilitation Program; maintaining professional case records; preparing monthly statistical reports and providing supervision to Rehabilitation Counselors.
