Minimum Qualifications MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Education Program Assistant 1 OR for appointment to Education Trainee 1, candidates must be reachable on the Education Department’s Public Administration Traineeship Transition (PATT) eligible list OR on the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) eligible list OR have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Agency Program Aide or Administrative Aide. Appointments from the PATT or the PCO lists require completion of a two-year traineeship which leads to a Grade 14.
Section §70.4 Transfer –A candidate may be eligible for nomination for §70.4 transfer to Education Trainee 1 if they have standing on the PCO, PMI or PATT (and possess a Bachelor’s degree) eligible lists and are currently a New York State employee in a title allocated to SG-09 or higher.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of the Professions (OP) is seeking applicants for the positon of Education Program Assistant 1 (EPA 1) in the Dental, Optometry & Chiropractic Board Office. Under the general direction of the Education Program Assistant 2 (EPA 2), the EPA 1 will gather, review and evaluate information required for the professional practice of dentistry, optometry and chiropractic, as well as respond to e-mails and phone calls based on information collected. Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Participate in the review/evaluation/administration of licensure applications and limited permits utilizing Access database, Total Record Information Management (TRIM) and e-licensing system;
• Maintain and update licensure Access database, TRIM and e-licensing system, documents/forms;
• Review and evaluate all Chiropractic Continuing Education Courses for accuracy of the Education Law and appropriateness of topics, ensuring that they meet the standards prescribed by the Regulations of the Commissioner with input from the Board and Executive Secretary when necessary;
• Correspond with sponsors and provide follow-up on pending Continuing Education applications;
• Maintain and update database programs for Chiropractic Continuing Education;
• Provide the Executive Secretary background research for proposed legislation and assist with posting of Bill Information Tracking System (BITS) legislative comments;
• Carry out the logistical aspects of planning and conducting board meetings, prepare agenda and board meeting informational packets, and attend and take minutes for the Chiropractic Board;
• Prepare board appointments;
• Serve as the liaison between the Board office and travel unit;
• Update and maintain travel records and procedures for Board Offices, make travel arrangements and submit appropriate justifications for approval or processing as required;
• Design board office files and inventories, both electronically and on paper;
• Implement or suggest new or revised procedures within the office; and
• Serve as a back-up for other staff as needed.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval. *The salary above applies to candidates appointed to Education Program Assistant 1, SG-14. The hiring rate for candidates appointed to Education Trainee 1 starts at $35,535, and for current NYS employees, is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Candidates hired into the traineeship will be advanced to Education Program Assistant 1 upon successful completion of a two-year traineeship.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $53,606 based on annual performance advances.
