Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list (the Calculations Clerk 2 and Senior Underwriting Clerk exams are currently used to fill this position);

OR

Transfer Opportunity - Candidates must have permanent status as an Office Assistant 2 (Calculations), and be eligible for lateral transfer;

OR

be eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. To qualify for Section 70.1 transfer, candidates must have at least one year of permanent status in a title approved for transfer by Civil Service within two salary grades of the Grade 9 level.

In the event that there is not a valid eligible list, candidates who meet the following promotion qualifications may be qualified for a provisional appointment:

Candidates must be a qualified employee of New York State with one year or more of permanent competitive or 55-b/5-c service in a clerical or keyboard title allocated to Grade 5 or higher.

If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed. If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained.

Duties Description As an Office Assistant 2 (Calculations), you may either supervise two or more Office Assistants 1 or other lower-level staff; and/or directly perform the more difficult or complicated clerical processing and office support work for which substantive knowledge of the program area is required.

Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $3,026.
