Minimum Qualifications REASSIGNMENT QUALIFICATIONS: An employee with one-year permanent competitive service as Office Assistant 2, Grade 9 is eligible for reassignment.
An employee with less than one year permanent competitive service is eligible for reassignment to a different geographic location only if the employee is reachable for appointment in the new location.
TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS: An employee with one year of permanent competitive service in a title allocated to Grade 7 or higher may qualify for transfer pursuant to Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
PROVISIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: You must be a qualified employee of the Department of Labor and have had one year of competitive service or 55b/55c service in an office assistant, clerical or keyboarding title allocated to a Grade 5 or higher. You must have taken the most recent exam for an Office Assistant 2 (given October 2015). In order to received a permanent appointment, a provisional candidate must successfully pass and have a reachable score when the new list is issued.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates will have strong customer service, communications and organizational skills, be detail oriented, have the ability to handle multiple and shifting priorities.
Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES: As Office Assistant 2 in the Personnel Office, you would perform clerical processing and records maintenance activities using word processing packages, spreadsheets, database programs, and other software; and may supervise clerical support staff. You would gather, compile, enter and prepare data from manual or automated files and other sources for various reports, publications, records, etc.; design formats for various reports and forms; respond to or direct inquiries regarding personnel matters; coordinate arrangements for meetings, arranging for rooms, and insuring that appropriate materials and equipment are available; operate office equipment such as photocopiers, calculators, computers, printers, typewriters, audiovisual equipment, etc., as necessary to complete assigned tasks; perform simple maintenance tasks such as adding toner and paper and changing ribbons. You will also serve as backup for other support staff and perform other duties as assigned.

The Personnel Bureau provides strategic advice and guidance to agency leaders, managers and supervisors on a variety of personnel issues, such as evaluating current and future staffing needs that impact job classification and recruitment for new and existing programs. In addition, the bureau assists employees with career advancement, questions about examinations and various employee benefit programs, such as voluntary reduction work schedules, Family Medical Leave, employee health services, workers compensation, and retirement.
