Minimum Qualifications Permanent service in this title or one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-12 or higher and otherwise eligible to transfer to a Crime Victim Specialist (CVS)1 under Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. Titles eligible to transfer are Investigator, Medical Conduct Investigator and Workers' Comp Examiner. The only title eligible for transfer to the CVS Trainee is Agency Program Aide.

Duties Description The primary function of the Crime Victims Specialist (CVS) 1 is to review and process compensation claims filed by crime victims or their survivors for unreimbursed compensable expenses. The CVS 1 reviews claims from initial investigation through the final decision on whether or not to award the claim. Claims processing is performed using a computer system application (Claims Assistant). Written and oral contact with victims, insurance companies, and law enforcement agencies to investigate claims is a critical job function. Incumbents review documents, verify accuracy and validity of information, track down supporting documentation and prepare written reports and recommendations for final disposition. Other critical functions include conducting training, internally and externally, on OVS rules, regulations and guidelines for compensation; and showing compassion to the victims being served.
