Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must currently be serving as a Senior Computer Operator. OR be eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
70.1 Transfer:
Candidates must have one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 12 or higher.
Duties Description • Supervise staff members in the Operations Center Services Unit which includes performing supervisory responsibilities over lower-level computer operators, set priorities, and provide instruction and training to lower-level computer operators.
• Monitor, interpret, and understand main console program, system messages, and a variety of system performance indicators. Critical duties of this duty is the ability to monitor the system and be able to quickly interpret and respond to console messages as well as analyze job problems and errors, initiate corrective action and consult/inform users as necessary. Provide back up for other employees in the unit.
• Keep supervisor aware of significant issues, decisions, and pending matters by using appropriate communication mechanisms to advise supervisor and management of accomplishments and any pending issues. This includes writing clear and concise status reports, ensuring deadlines are met for correspondence, reports, and processes.
• Document hardware and software incident reports, maintain record and log books and create shift and turnover reports. Accurately maintain all appropriate log books, and reports, including all check log books and associated check paperwork.
• Maintain working knowledge of all installed computer hardware and software components in order to train SG-10 computer operators and perform their tasks as necessary as well as provide answers to any questions and provide necessary back up.
• Prepare shift, turnover, absentee and other reports as necessary in a clear and concise manner.
• Operate tape drives and robotic devices. Prepares and assigns tapes for various data processing operations.
• Operate print devices that produce output from various data processing program runs and ensure that schedules, specific forms, and production quality is maintained.
• Ensure through observation that our very high quality control standard for all input/output processes. All output is logged, packed, and distributed in an accurate and timely manner. Prepare accurate and timely check reconciliation paperwork. Make sure prompt and appropriate action is taken to follow up and resolve pending issues.
