Minimum Qualifications We are seeking candidates with at least five (5) years of experience in complex trusts and estates, civil litigation and/or not-for-profit transactional matters. Candidates should have a solid working knowledge of New York State Supreme and Surrogate’s Court practice and experience handling contested court proceedings. Familiarity with not-for-profit operations and business organizational structures is preferred but not required.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States.

Duties Description The Charities Bureau of the Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General in its Albany Office. The Charities Bureau is a national leader in the oversight of not-for-profit organizations and represents the interests of charitable beneficiaries in a wide range of matters.

Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
• representing the interests of charitable beneficiaries in Surrogate’s Court and Supreme Court proceedings involving trusts and estates with charitable interests;
• representing the interests of the State and the people of the State of New York as ultimate beneficiaries of the charitable bequests;
• participation in cy pres applications in state court;
• handling litigation involving contested probate proceedings;
• reviewing fiduciary accountings;
• representing the interests of the Attorney General in connection with providing Attorney General approval of not-for-profit transactions including sales, mergers, dissolutions and other transactions involving not-for-profit organizations; and
• representing the Attorney General in litigated proceedings relating to transactions with not-for-profit organizations.

Additional Comments Salary to be determined commensurate with experience.
