Minimum Qualifications The qualified candidate must have an interest in health care policy or finance and demonstrate strong analytical, and oral and written communication skills. Candidates with graduate-level coursework in health care finance or policy are preferred, but post-junior level undergraduates with strong writing and analytical skills may be considered.
Duties Description The intern will be part of the Medicaid Section in the Health Unit which is currently comprised of four teams and twelve examiners, with oversight responsibilities for the $66 billion Medicaid program, Essential Plan, Child Health Plus, Federal Health Care Reform, Health Care Reform Act (HCRA) and various other assignments involving different aspects of health care finance. These programs provide public health insurance coverage for over 6.2 million low income recipients. The intern will:
• Conduct analyses and develop budget/policy recommendations and for implementation of innovative programs and strategies related to Medicaid program reforms;
• Review and identify fiscal and policy impacts associated with proposals advanced by the Federal Government, the State Legislature and various advocacy groups as the State’s Medicaid program prepares for changes mandated by the Federal Health Care reform;
• Assist in monitoring and forecasting enrollment, expenditures and service utilization of program areas within Medicaid program; and
• Evaluate and participate in development of programmatic and policy solutions aimed at addressing care and financing needs for vulnerable populations, including financing the minimum wage for health care providers and the reauthorization of HCRA in 2017.
A position with the Medicaid Section will offer the Graduate Intern a unique opportunity to conduct research and develop recommendations related to the Medicaid program.
