Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level Plumber which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training in a trade, or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.

Duties Description • Perform all phases of plumbing installation/construction, alterations and repairs of pipe fittings, equipment and fixtures of domestic water, hydronic heating and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes including landscape irrigation systems.
• Troubleshoot, replacement and maintenance of plumbing fixtures, piping and related devices.
• Will be required to work independently and perform duties at a journeyman’s level, as well as at times taking instruction from a maintenance supervisor.
• Work with all trades performing skilled activities in response to any maintenance program requirements. Work alongside other trades workers to complete projects.
• Will be required to braze, solder and weld using the appropriate equipment.
• Will be required to plan, estimate and layout work.
• Will be required to both communicate instructions to a helper and/or assistant as well as oversee that the work performed is completed correctly.
• Required to retrieve daily assignments and maintain accountable hours utilizing AiM.

Additional Comments Application Process:
Qualifying experience gained through other than a formal apprentice program, in order to be deemed equivalent, must have been a carefully designed and monitored work experience demonstrating a progression of skills and abilities equal to that achieved during an apprentice program and include relevant course work. Candidates are required to provide specific, verifiable information about their qualifying experience. This information should be on the letterhead of the employer under whom the qualifying experience was gained and include names and titles of supervisors, duties performed during the training period and specific dates of employment and be signed by that employer.

• Candidates qualifying through the completion of appropriate course work should include a copy of their transcript or listing of course work completed.
• A copy of a trades union card is acceptable documentary proof of qualification.
• Candidates who do not submit appropriate documentary proof that they meet the minimum qualifications will not be considered for appointment.

Per Agreement between the Civil Service Employees’ Association, Inc. and the State of New York, Article 45 (c) the requirement to prove qualification shall rest with the employee.

Operating Needs:
• Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New York State motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Asbestos certification required within 90 days of appointment as well as compliance with all related PESH/OSHA regulations.
• Able to work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, platform lifts, boom lifts, etc.
• Able to operate a variety of forklifts (OSHA certification provided after appointment).
• Able to lift a minimum of 80 lbs.
• Ability to read and interpret blue prints, plans, and applicable building codes and regulations.
