Salary RangeFrom $87891 to $107946 Annually
Minimum Qualifications Reachable for appointment on current Civil Service list for this title; or, one year of permanent competitive class service as an Associate Attorney; or, one year of permanent competitive class service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
Duties Description This position will work in the Litigation Division which monitors lawsuits in which NYSIF is defending the employer under part Two - Employers' Liability Insurance coverage portion of the Workers Compensation/Employers' Liability policy. The incumbent would handle in-house a number of lawsuits commenced against NYSIF by physicians and other medical providers seeking payment for services rendered to NYSIF compensation claimants. Duties include interacting with NYSIF retained counsel and counsel retained by the employer's general liability carrier in an effort to ensure that all appropriate action is taken in the defense of our policyholder; reviewing counsel's deposition and status reports to evaluate and determine or advise whether it would be in the best interests of our policyholder and NYSIF to either pursue settlement of a lawsuit or proceed to trial. In addition to the duties in the Litigation Division, the incumbent will be undertaking the supervision of NYSIF's "Records Request Unit" which processes a very substantial number of requests/subpoenas seeking copies of NYSIF Workers' Compensation Claimant's files/records.
Additional Comments Preferred candidate should possess experience in Workers Compensation Law, Third Party, Research and Analysis, Settlement Negotiations, Appeals, Drafting Briefs and Appellate Argument.
