Minimum Qualifications Permanent candidates must currently be a permanent Habilitation Specialist 1 (who meets QIDP standards*) OR be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list OR be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law (and meets QIDP standards*)

Provisional Qualifications:
Departmental Examination: Candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a clinical or direct care position AND must also possess a bachelor’s degree or higher in a human services field OR permanent New York State certification as a teacher.
OR
Open-Competitive Examination: Candidate must have a bachelor’s or higher level degree in a human services field AND one year of direct care or clinical experience where your primary focus is providing services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
Substitution: A master’s degree in a human service field OR permanent New York State certification as a teacher may be substituted for the degree and experience described above.
*QIDP (Qualified Intellectual Disorder Professional) designation requires one year's experience working with people with a developmental disability AND a Bachelor's Degree or higher in a human services field (including, but not limited to: sociology, special education, rehabilitation counseling or psychology).
Duties Description The Habilitation Specialist 1 at Ulster Day Program is a critical supervisory position that oversees the daily operation
of a classroom setting serving up to 17 individuals. The Habilitation Specialist 1 guarantees that a consistent approach
is utilized to deliver day habilitation service, maintain individual safety, is the key liaison for communication between direct care and clinical staff. Habilitation Specialist 1 provides supervision in the classroom to ensure the individuals are engaged in activities throughout the day as well as following the individual’s Day Hab plans.
Under the direction of the Habilitation Specialist 2, the Habilitation Specialist 1’s duties will include, but are not limited to:
? Develops Day Habilitation Plans that address the outcomes reflected in the ISP and
the needs and interests of assigned individuals
? Is responsible for daily classroom preparation and individual participation;
? Ensures day habilitation plans are implemented and progress is monitored;
? Provides guidance for Direct care staff
? Ensures all staff perform all assigned tasks during their shift;
? Behavior plans are implemented as written;
? Community inclusion occurs in accordance with mandates in term of frequency and type;
? Health care needs are addressed;
? Regulatory compliance is maintained.
? Ensures that the Day Habilitation Billing is completed, verified for accuracy and submitted on a daily basis
? Completes monthly notes
