Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For permanent appointment candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology, archeology, public archeology, or closely related field and five years of professional experience in cultural resource management OR a Master’s Degree in anthropology, archeology, public archelogy, or closely related field and four years of professional experience in cultural resource management OR a Doctoral Degree in anthropology, archeology, public archeology or closely related field and two years of professional experience in cultural resource management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates who possess the following qualifications:

• Doctoral Degree in anthropology, archeology, public archeology or closely related field and five years of experience managing a cultural resource management program.
• Five years of experience managing a cultural resource management program within a public institution.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education (OCE) is seeking to fill a Museum Scientist 4, in the New York State Museum (NYSM). Under the direction of the Director, Research and Collections Division, the incumbent will serve as co-Director for the Museum’s Cultural Resource Survey Program (CRSP). Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide day-to-day management of the in-house portion of the CRSP;
• Oversee of all aspects of CRSP including annual program and project budgeting, project scheduling, staff assignments, coordination with client agencies, draft report reviews, equipment and supply purchases, and management and maintenance of field vehicles and field and laboratory equipment;
• Collaborate with the CRSP co-director to assess the appropriate assignment of projects to the in-house program for the subcontracted portion of CRSP;
• Cooperatively work with CRSP co-director to develop the annual program and the addition of CRSP projects to meet client and agency priorities and schedules;
• Supervise in-house CRSP staff;
• Ensure that work schedules are maintained;
• Develop and review annual performance plans for staff;
• Ensure that field and laboratory work meets all appropriate professional standards, including all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines;
• Coordinate with NYSM collections staff to accession collections in timely fashion; and
• Collaborate with CRSP co-director to meet client, agency and NYSM expectations for public outreach and engagement.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit.
