Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have one year of permanent status as a Mental Health Program Specialist 1 and eligible for lateral transfer, OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of the Grade 18 level. Duties Description The NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH), Division of Forensic Services, is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Mental Health Program Specialist 1, Grade 18, position in the Division of Forensic Services (DFS), Bureau of Statewide Pre-Release Services.

Statewide Pre-Release Services has the ongoing responsibility of implementing enhanced assessment and treatment programs within DOCCS for inmate-patients identified as seriously mentally ill and who have histories of violence. The Mental Health Program Specialist 1 will interface with DOCCS, parole and local municipalities, and will also monitor discharge plans for those inmate-patients as they transition into the community to ensure successful and safe reentry. In addition, the incumbent (amongst other tasks) will:

• Monitor dedicated housing and ensure inmate-patients receive needed housing services.

• Facilitate direct access to mental health housing for individuals who are mentally ill upon release from prison.

• Monitor the current forensic housing beds and dedicated care coordination slots.

• Coordinate mental health care coordination services, including transitional dedicated intensive case management teams and Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) teams who are monitored by the NYS Office of Mental Health’s Division of Forensic Services.
