Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a valid New York State Class B driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking applicants to fill the position of Motor Vehicle Operator for the Office of Cultural Education (OCE). The Motor Vehicle Operator will report to the Director of Operations for the OCE and will be responsible for operating motorized equipment in support of collections and program equipment transport and transporting members of the Board of Regents during the monthly Board meetings, which could include overnight travel. The Motor Vehicle Operator will also be responsible for various tasks supporting maintenance, grounds or building trades’ and maintaining various vehicles operated by the OCE, including box trucks. Other duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Move or carry cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point;
• Ensure the safe transportation of cargo, including installing and operating equipment to secure cargo;
• Operate vehicles both on and off the grounds of State institutions and facilities;
• Regularly monitor gauges and check fluid levels and tire pressure for all vehicles;
• Tend to the routine maintenance of vehicles, as required;
• Change the oil and spark plugs, as necessary;
• Maintain vehicle fuel and maintenance logs in accordance with the NYSED fleet management program;
• Change tires, wash vehicles and clean interior of vehicles;
• Arrange for rental vehicles, if required; and
• Perform other duties, as assigned
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent, non-competitive appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval. Promotions may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Standard hours for this position are Monday thru Friday 7:30am to 3:30pm, however, candidates must be flexible as hours may change on short notice. May include overnight and weekend hours.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $37,636 with annual performance advances.
