Minimum Qualifications For Permanent Appointment: One year of permanent competitive service as a Senior Building Construction Engineer or Senior Architect. Must possess New York State certification as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect.

For Provisional Appointment: Two years of experience supervising or inspecting building construction projects, including structural and architectural elements of the building AND possession of a New York State Professional Engineering License with current registration OR a New York State Registered Architect's License and current registration.





Duties Description Senior Building Construction Engineers in the Department of State prepare, review, and analyze provisions of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Construction Code and State Energy Conservation Construction Code and develop recommendations for additions, deletions, and changes to those codes. They review plans and specifications submitted by state and local officials; advise code enforcement officials, architects, engineers, and contractors in the interpretation of provisions of the codes; and provide assistance to petitioners seeking variance from the provisions of the Uniform Code or Energy Code.
