Duties Description Under the general direction of the Associate Public Information Specialist (Communication Lead) for the Redesign Project, the Graphic Designer 2 will manage the development and creation of materials and resources designed to:
• Provide NYSLRS members, retirees, and beneficiaries with information about their NYSLRS benefits;
• Educate employers and business partners about their roles and responsibilities; and
• Inform customers about the new web-based self-service application, Retirement Online.

The Graphic Designer 2 will be a critical liaison between Redesign Project staff and Retirement Communications as phases of Retirement Online are implemented. The Graphic Designer 2 will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following activities:
• Manage and coordinate Redesign design activities, including, but not limited to intranet, web, print, multimedia and video projects.
o Work with Communication Lead and Retirement Communications Bureau to determine content and design needs based on the Redesign Project strategic communication plan.
o Meet with representatives of interested groups, both internal and external, to present materials and discuss the impact the new pension administration solution will have on members, retirees and employer partners.
o Lead the concept development of design and marketing solutions.
• Propose communication and marketing solutions that fulfill the business needs of NYSLRS and the Redesign project.
o Recommend design approach, including the use of illustrations, graphics and content.
o Recommendations take into account the purpose and objective of the project and the target audience.
• Act as liaison with Retirement Communications design, multimedia production and content staff.
• Manage workflow and approvals for Redesign-related work.
o Confer with Communication Lead, Redesign staff, Communications Bureau staff, IT Specialists, representatives from other bureaus/divisions and/or division management to discuss project objectives, scope, design features, target audience, due dates and format.
o Confer with Communication bureau supervisors to set project priorities.
o Advise appropriate personnel regularly regarding the progress of the projects.
o Ensure project milestones and deadlines are met.
o Arrange for all appropriate approvals. Follow up on approvals as necessary to ensure projects are produced within the required time period.
• Serve as creative lead for design activities, including, but not limited to intranet, web, social media, print, multimedia and video projects.
o Use professional design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) to create or oversee the creation of projects or elements of projects (graphics, illustrations, etc.).
o Create or oversee the creation of web technologies for Intranet and Internet application.
o Oversee the creation of interactive media rich applications conducive to enriching user experience for our web (or other) audience. Ensure ADA compliance and usability considerations are applied consistently.
o Assist in the digital video production process, including conceptualization, storyboarding, video/audio taping and editing.
• Develop content for various media, including, but not limited to intranet, web, social media, print, multimedia and video projects.
o Confer with editors, writers and other staff to conceptualize content needed based on project objectives, design elements, format and target audience.
o Recommend direction, style, tone, perspective, form and format of finished product.
o Manage social media content and customer interactions
o Manage customer engagement on social media.
• Maintain production calendar.
• Represent Redesign in meetings with Redesign staff and Retirement bureau representatives where design and content presentation questions are discussed.
• Supervise subordinate designers, conduct performance evaluations with subordinates, review subordinates' projects to determine if they conform to bureau/industry standards.
o Directly supervise Graphic Designer 1.
o Act as mentor to ensure subordinate designers become familiar with the workflow and techniques unique to this business and its objectives.
o Train staff and evaluate performance.

• Strong working knowledge of content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla!).
