Salary RangeFrom $71309 to $90020 Annually
Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
In the event that a viable eligible examination list may not exist in all locations, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for a permanent appointment to the position.
Duties Description As an Engineering Geologist 2, the incumbent will work under the direction of a higher-level supervisor/manager performing field and laboratory investigations related to the quality, characteristics and performance of aggregates used in asphalt and Portland cement concrete.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Evaluating aggregate sources.
• Reviewing geological source reports.
• Investigating aggregate test failures and participating in resolution of quality issues.
• Providing technical guidance for consultants, aggregate producers and Department employees/managers.
• Managing Geology Laboratory.
• Supervising and training geologists and others.
• Performing various laboratory tests, such as petrograhic analyses of aggregate samples, acid insoluble residue, copper nitrate staining and other aggregate tests.
• Evaluating friction properties and other engineering characteristics of aggregates.
• Using appropriate databases and computer programs to search and tabulate field and laboratory data, update the Approved List of Sources of Fine and Coarse Aggregate and to prepare maps and reports.
• Performing other duties, as required.
Responsibilities may also include participating within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
