Minimum Qualifications TRANSFER: Eligible for a lateral transfer or eligible for a 70.1 transfer by having one year of permanent, competitive service in an appropriate title;*
OR
ELIGIBLE LIST: Candidates must be reachable on the current eligible list for the Office Assistant 2 Spanish Language* in Albany. Candidates who are currently on the eligible list for the Office Assistant 2 Spanish Language in Albany need not submit an application for this posting unless they are applying directly as a result of the transfer qualifications listed above;
OR
PROVISIONAL: A provisional appointment may be made by having one year of permanent, competitive service in an office assistant, clerical or keyboarding title allocated to a Grade 5 or higher.*
*In addition, in order to be considered for appointment to a Spanish language position, applicants will be required to demonstrate proficiency in Spanish at a level that will ensure their ability to adequately perform the duties of the position.
Duties Description This position is located in the SSI State Supplement Bureau, within the Center for Employment and Economic Supports. Duties of the position will include but will not be limited to:
• Open new State Supplement Program cases;
• Process changes reported from various sources (i.e., Statewide Data Exchange (SDX), client calls, congregate care facilities, financial institutions), update client records and initiate the case actions;
• Calculate regular, manual and retroactive payments;
• Issue all program related notices;
• Conducting re-determinations and initiate recoveries;
• Review forms for completeness;
• Request information from recipients;
• Respond to recipient requests;
• Enter and retrieve information from the SSP computer system;
• Answer questions from recipients/providers/financial institutions;
• Fax, mail, and e-mail recipients & vendors;
• Review activity/exception reports.
Additional Comments You must be a current NYS employee to apply for this position. A full time, contingent-permanent OR provisional appointment will be made. Incumbent must demonstrate and pass a Spanish language test to show their ability to understand Spanish and to speak it fluently. If certified by Civil Service, mandatory reemployment list candidates must be considered first for appointment to this title.
