Minimum Qualifications Must have three years of satisfactory experience in the operation and maintenance of electronic equipment in one or more of the following areas:
1. Diagnosis and repair of electronic office equipment;
2. Medical electronic equipment such as electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, defibrillators, *and x-ray equipment;
3. Scientific equipment such as spectrophotometers, chemical analyzers, and radiation detection instruments;
4. Communication equipment such as two-way radios, fire alarms, and closed circuit television systems;
5. Control equipment (including HVAC control systems and energy management systems), security systems and intrusion and surveillance equipment; or
6. Instrumentation including meters, sensors, indicators, recorders, and data acquisition equipment.
Substitution
Either 1: An associate's degree in electronic technology or successful completion of a two-year technical professional certification program in the electronics field may be substituted for two years of the required experience;
Or 2: Graduation from a high school technical electronics education program recognized by the New York State Education Department as meeting the standards for technical education may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Duties Description Test, install, diagnose, maintain, and repair electronic systems and equipment, and control circuits. Depending upon your specific assignment, your duties might include the testing of central heating plant controls; HVAC control systems, energy management systems, chiller control systems; working with blue prints; installing communication equipment, computerized equipment , audiovisual equipment, sound systems, intrusion-type security systems, and intercoms; and testing and repairing fire alarm systems, related smoke detectors, alarm panels, strobe lights, sirens, smoke hatches, PA systems, wireless clock systems, and nurse call systems. You might maintain a wide variety of data gathering panels, HVAC control communication panels, remote sensors, valve and fan controllers, end device electronic actuators, electronic interface with pneumatic actuators, life safety systems, and video equipment; calibrate specialized instrumentation; troubleshoot digital and linear video and audio circuits; repair electronic equipment such as solid state public address amplifiers; fabricate test equipment; and construct various types of testers for printed circuit panels. The work tasks may include working with ladders.
