Duties Description The NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH), Division of Forensic Services, is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Mental Health Program Specialist 3, Grade 25, position in the Division of Forensic Services (DFS), Statewide Pre-Release Services’ Mental Health/Criminal Justice Collaboration Unit.
The Mental Health/Criminal Justice Collaboration Unit has the ongoing responsibility of coordinating all mental health services and initiatives at the local level, including partnerships with local probation departments, law enforcement, county jails, non-profit housing organizations, and local reentry services. The incumbent will coordinate and implement all local mental health training initiatives for law enforcement as well as Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) and suicide prevention efforts statewide. In addition, the incumbent will:
• Work, in collaboration with other State and local agencies, to facilitate training of police, probation, parole, court personnel, and correctional staff who interact with mentally-ill, justice-involved individuals.
• Provide support and technical assistance on forensic issues for local governmental units including suicide prevention and adequate mental health treatment in local correctional facilities, appropriate mental health training for criminal justice staff whose jobs routinely bring them in contact with persons who are mentally ill, timely access to mental health services for persons on parole and probation and alternatives to incarceration, and training to enhance the knowledge and skills of mental health providers in the community.
• Facilitate and oversee the implementation of Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) statewide.
