Minimum Qualifications To be considered, candidates must have:

1. An appropriate professional degree, and New York State licensure/certification where applicable,*

AND

2. Seven (7) years of responsible administrative management or supervisory experience providing service to people diagnosed with mental illness, including at least one year in an administrative/management position comparable to an executive staff level position in a psychiatric center, research institute, or developmental center. **

*Physician applicants who possess a N.Y.S. limited permit and who are licensed in another state or possess a Canadian license issued on the basis of a written examination may be considered for appointment while applying for New York State licensure. Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining a current New York State limited permit or obtaining full N.Y.S. licensure.

**Physicians may substitute two (2) years of experience at the Chief of Service level for the one (1) year of executive level experience. Certification in Psychiatry issued by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or clearly equivalent certifying body is preferred for physician applicants.

Additionally, all candidates must be eligible to participate in Federal health care programs (e.g., Medicaid). Individuals excluded from participation in these programs will not be considered.

Duties Description The Executive Director, Psychiatric Center serves as the Chief Executive Officer of SBPC. Through general supervision and close collaboration with the facility cabinet, the Executive Director is responsible for the administrative leadership and direction of all clinical and non-clinical programs and activities of SBPC. The Executive Director works closely with OMH’s Central Office Division of State Operations, the NYC Field Office, local government units, and a network of community providers to ensure continuity of care and effective delivery of services. SBPC fosters creativity, employs evidence-based practices, and promotes an atmosphere in which staff can provide the best to patients in care.

South Beach Psychiatric Center (SBPC) is seeking a dynamic leader, with proven clinical and executive management experience in the field of mental health treatment, to fill the position of Executive Director, Psychiatric Center.

SBPC is a New York State operated, The Joint Commission (TJC) accredited, mental health facility located on the eastern shore of Staten Island, New York. SBPC offers a comprehensive continuum of care of mental health services to adults and adolescents living in Brooklyn (the fastest growing borough in NYC) and Staten Island. Services include: intermediate inpatient care (260 adult inpatient beds and 11 adolescent inpatient beds); psychiatric rehabilitation services; three (3) Transitional Living Residences; and community-based services (e.g., 6 outpatient clinics in Brooklyn and 2 outpatient clinics in Staten Island, mobile outreach, and Assertive Community Treatment teams) to over 3,500 individuals. SBPC also operates specialized treatment programs serving LGBT patients and monolingual patients.

All services provided by SBPC are delivered in a respectful, safe and caring environment with a primary focus on hope and recovery. They promote a system of care in which treatment, rehabilitation and recovery are realized through ongoing collaboration with patients, their families and the service providers within the facility’s catchment area. Emphasis is on services that are person centered, strength and evidence-based, and that recognize the importance of individual preferences.

The facility is a short drive from the Verrazano Bridge and is accessible via public transportation. The area surrounding SBPC offers a variety of attractions, including a boardwalk and beach with views of New York City. The Staten Island Zoo, museums, the Ocean Breeze Fishing Pier, and over 170 parks and natural areas are also close-by. Daycare is available on the SBPC campus. Background Investigations and Fees:

Candidates will also be subject to a check against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs, and the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) maintained by the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).
