Minimum Qualifications For Vocational Instructor 1: An Associate's Degree in a related trade area and two years of appropriate trade experience; Or a Bachelor's Degree in any area and one year of appropriate trade experience.
For Vocational Instructor 2: An Associate's Degree in a related trade area including or supplemented by 12 college credits of pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program. These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: human development and learning; teaching students with disabilities and special health needs; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and English language arts or communication skills; and two years of related trade experience; Or a Bachelor's Degree in any area including or supplemented by 12 college credits of pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program. These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas; human development and learning; teaching students with disabilities and special health needs; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and English language arts or communication skills; and one year of related trade experience.
For Vocational Instructor 3: Initial certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Education Department.
For Vocational Instructor 4: Professional certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Department.
Duties Description Teach trades and skills to inmates of Institutions and Facilities under general Supervisor. Preparation of lesson plans, course outlines, trade analysis, and may include shop layout planning, the establishment of shop safety programs, and the maintenance of tools and equipment expected to manage a classroom environment appropriately. Evaluating their progress as part of your record keeping duties. May need to utilize technology as part of your instruction to enhance the educational setting.
Additional Comments Salary Grade ranges from 12 to 17 depending on level of qualification.
