Position Summary:
This position is the primary support to the Graduate Director and this individual will be the principal resource to the graduate students and faculty. The incumbent is expected to execute all program responsibilities, administrative tasks, and critical tasks autonomously, efficiently and in a timely fashion. Providing support to the graduate unit of this department, which is so diverse and complex, requires campus-wide coordination and a larger understanding of the programs and operations within the scope of the department and the university at large.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
-Provide complete support of graduate students from admissions through graduation
-Monitor students' progress throughout the process and be proactive to any obstacles / issues
-Updating department databases
-Outlining and implementing Graduate School policies to faculty and DGS when necessary
-Processing admissions paperwork
-Respond to all graduate program inquiries (by mail, email, phone, etc.)
-Processing TA office assignments
-Completing surveys on graduate statistics
-Organizing and preparing qualifying exams to include all phases
-Communicating and coordinating efforts with the Dean's Office when graduate student issues arise
-Calendar maintenance, creating agendas
-Coordinating with the Undergraduate Director about undergraduate interest / admission into the graduate program
-Processing scholarship and fellowship paperwork
-Processing various administrative forms
-Monitoring graduate students GPAs and sending out probationary letters when applicable
-Maintain department databases and listservs of supported and non-supported student addresses
-Facilitating the graduate student meetings
-Recommending to the DGS and Associate Chairman about TA renewals as well as apprising them of new TAs within the department
-Update and maintain the graduate student bulletin board
