Minimum Qualifications Must have a New York State License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse; and certification by the New York State Education Department in a specialty** area to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
**Specialty area must coincide with the scope of practice performed by an incumbent; this denotes the appropriate parenthetic.
Must also meet the current requirements as set by New York State to prescribe medication.
Duties Description Develops health profile by taking health and development history, performing physical examination, analyzing clinical laboratory data and other diagnostic tests. Reviews presenting problem, date of onset and duration. Performs complete physical examination that may include vital signs, blood pressure, hydration status, orthoscopic exam, retinal inspection, skin status, neurological testing and review of various body systems. Orders routine laboratory tests such as CBC, blood chemistry, urinalysis, serology bacteriological testing and tests indicated by physical finding or patient complaint. Records findings and assessment in a systematic and accurate format and consistent with established protocols of the facility.
