Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list;

OR

Transfer Opportunity:

Candidates must be New York State employees with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service as an Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) and eligible for lateral transfer;

OR

eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. To qualify for Section 70.1 transfer, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service in a title approved for transfer by Civil Service within two salary grades of the SG-6 level.

AND

Candidates who have not previously served in a keyboarding title must demonstrate adequate keyboarding skills (i.e. the ability to type 35 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy) by passing the Keyboard Specialist performance test.

Duties Description As an Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding), you would spend the majority of your work time operating a standard keyboard, usually a computer. You would receive and organize work to be typed and determine document format. You would type correspondence, documents, records, and other written material from various sources in final or draft form using handwritten/marked copy, rough drafts, and recordings or data from various source material. You would review work to ensure compliance with accepted office practices including correct layout, spelling, punctuation and grammar, and discuss any problems and possible solutions with the author. You would set up equipment, margins, spacing, etc., and perform routine maintenance. You may also operate office machines, such as copiers and fax machines; distribute incoming mail; maintain files; refer visitors, telephone calls, and messages to the appropriate staff member; assist and train other employees; and perform other office duties as required.

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR will be barred from appointment.

This position is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $ 3,026.
