Minimum Qualifications Master’s Degree in Public Health or Epidemiology and five years of professional research experience; or a Doctorate in the mentioned degrees and three years of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Clinical, terminal degree (M.D., D.O., D.V.M., V.M.D., D.M.D, D.D.S., D.N.P., PhD in Nursing) from a US accredited college or university; Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) training desirable; ten or more years’ experience in the area of communicable disease control including surveillance and outbreak response activities; experience in computer data management and analysis, including professional experience with statistical database software, such as SAS, and Microsoft software (Access, Excel); excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills, including both public speaking and preparation of written materials such as reports, abstracts for presentations, and scientific publications; experience supervising professional level staff and providing public health consultation to clinicians; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work as part of a team and interact with individuals across all levels of an organization.
Duties Description The Research Scientist 5 (RS5) position will provide leadership and subject matter expertise necessary to respond to existing gaps in surveillance, scientific research, and the control and prevention of Zika and other emerging infectious diseases. The incumbent will provide consultation and guidance to local health departments, healthcare providers, and other partners; develop protocols to address and coordinate surveillance, investigation and response and methods to analyze and exchange information with multiple jurisdictions and agencies; use data systems to integrate and analyze data to rapidly identify clusters and links between cases; contribute to policy development and scientific knowledge through development and execution of research studies and publication of results in peer reviewed journals, presentations, guidance documents and educational materials; and supervise directly and indirectly central office and regional professional research scientists and other epidemiology staff.
Additional Comments Permanent, full-time, non-competitive appointment. Occasional travel, including overnights and travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation is required.
