Minimum Qualifications Possession of a High School Diploma, or equivalent. Individuals must have the legal right to work in the United States; have strong strong interpersonal communication skills; and have the ability to work a flexible schedule. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing stairs are required, as well as, the ability to visually observe and assess various bout activities. Should possess some basic knowledge of the sport(s) of boxing, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and wrestling. The ability to speak multiple languages is a plus. Must be someone with the ability to work with a large group.

Duties Description The New York State Athletic Commission (SAC) is authorized to regulate professional boxing, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and wrestling contests, matches, and exhibitions within the State of New York. Comprised of five members appointed by the governor, in addition to a physician, a Medical Advisory Board, and staff, SAC administers licenses, enforces rules and regulations, and ensures that medical and safety standards are being met. It provides training seminars for referees, judges, physicians, and inspectors, oversees hundreds of events annually across the state, and is committed to promoting and maintaining the health, safety and integrity of its regulated athletic activities.
The SAC announces exciting opportunities to serve as an Athletic Activities Inspector.
Athletic Activities Inspectors are assigned by SAC to assist in the management and oversight of professional boxing, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and wrestling events occurring in the State and report directly to the assigned Deputy Commissioners, Director of Boxing, Director of MMA/Kickboxing, and Executive Director. Illustrative duties of an Inspector include, but are not limited to:
i. Assisting pre-bout weigh-ins, professional boxing, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and wrestling events as directed by SAC;
ii. Enforcing all applicable statutes, regulations, and/or policies of the Commission;
iii. Conducting inspections of boxing, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and wrestling venues for compliance with Commission statutes, regulations, and/or policies.;
iv. Supervising the dressing room at events so that only those affiliated with the combatant are present and nothing is brought into the dressing room that is now allowed. Ensuring combatant has the required equipment;
v. Overseeing dressing room activities, including, the collection of urine for drug testing, hand wrapping, and gloving of combatants;
vi. Providing instructions to the combatants’ and their camps;
vii. Escorting combatant and team to the ring, and remaining ringside during the bout to perform the following: 1) Listen to referee’s instructions; observe the competitor and the care of the competitor; communicate information as needed to the referee, ringside physician or other Commission staff; 2) Observe the conduct and actions of the corner people and take appropriate action; 3) Assist the ringside physician and the paramedics, if necessary; 4) Keep unauthorized personnel out of the ring or cage; and 5) Escort competitor back to dressing room at the end of the fight.
viii. Conducting inspections of boxing, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and wrestling training facilities for compliance with Commission statutes, regulations, and/or policies; and
ix. Performing other boxing, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and wrestling related duties as directed by SAC staff.
Inspectors are required to work approximately 7 to 9 hours per show

Additional Comments Inspectors are compensated $100.00 per day. Events take place throughout New York State, we are looking for individuals to cover our Western and Central New York Regions; please indicate geographic areas in which you are willing to consider employment (e.g. Statewide; City of Utica; Suffolk County; etc.) Applicants will be fingerprinted and must submit to a background check that includes a review of criminal history and tax records.
