Minimum Qualifications 1. A valid license to practice medicine in New York State;

2. Board Certification in Psychiatry issued by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or clearly equivalent certifying body;

AND

3. Five (5) years of experience beyond the completion of residency training showing progressive responsibility and leadership in psychiatric programs, clinical supervision and administration in an academic medical center or psychiatric research program; and demonstrated competence and substantial experience in psychiatric research including active involvement in academic pursuits.

Additionally, all candidates must be eligible to participate in Federal health care programs (e.g., Medicaid). Individuals excluded from participation in these programs will not be considered.

Duties Description Under the general direction of the Director of New York State Psychiatric Institute and in close collaboration with other facility executive staff, the Deputy Director, Psychiatric Research Institute (DDPRI) serves as the Chief Medical Officer/Clinical Director of NYSPI and is responsible for the administration, oversight, evaluation and continuous improvement of all psychiatric and medical ancillary services provided by NYSPI staff and consultants. This includes the research inpatient units, the Washington Heights Community Service (inpatient unit, outpatient clinics and the First Episode Psychosis Program), the Adult Residents’ outpatient clinic, and the Children’s Day Unit. The DDPRI is responsible for the allied professional disciplines, such as Nursing and Social Work; develops, updates, and implements clinical policies and procedures; and, together with senior leadership, ensures compliance with all Office of Mental Health (OMH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) and other external accrediting bodies’ standards, rules and regulations. Ultimately, the DDPRI ensures that the clinical mission of NYSPI is successfully aligned with the Institute’s research and educational missions as well as the overall mission of OMH to promote the mental health and well-being of all New Yorkers so that they reach their ultimate goal of hope and recovery.

Additional Comments New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Director, Psychiatric Research Institute to serve as Chief Medical Officer/Clinical Director. NYSPI is a State-operated research facility at which world-renowned Research Scientists conduct research in biomedicine, neuroscience, experimental therapeutics, clinical interventions, and mental health services relevant to patients with mental illness. Since its inception, NYSPI has been at the forefront of psychiatry, making major contributions to the clinical care and understanding of individuals with mental illness.
