Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be able to read, write and communicate effectively with students and staff, follow written and spoken instructions, and relate to the students being supervised. Incumbents must be in good health, good physical condition, and able to perform moderate to heavy lifting of children and participate in physical activities such as swimming.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
• An Associate’s Degree or higher in the Human Services field;
• Experience as a Nurse’s Aide;
• Skills in sign language;
• Experience in behavior modification, orientation and mobility;
• Certification in water safety, CPR, first aid, advanced first aid, or EMT;
• Demonstrated skills working with the multiply disabled; and
Employees of the NYSSB who are currently in a Child Care Aide 1 position and are interested in switching to second shift MUST apply for the position as outlined in the Application section of this flyer.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Blind is seeking to fill two Child Care Aide 1 positions. The incumbents of these positions will be responsible for maintaining the safety and well-being of students, escorting students to and from activities, attending to students’ personal hygiene needs, the development of appropriate daily living skills, and providing supervision and assistance as necessary.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. These will be contingent permanent or permanent, 10-month positions. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Positions will likely be filled on the shift listed. If current staff bid to change shifts, their current shift assignment will be backfilled. End times for second shift employees may be extended by up to two hours per day in order for staff to attend mandatory meetings and trainings.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $34,797 ($41,756 prorated to 10 months) with annual performance advances. Inconvenience pay will be added will be added to the annual salary for these positions.
