Minimum Qualifications Current Department of Health (DOH) employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Health Program Administrator (HPA) G18; OR current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above G18 and eligible to transfer to HPA G18 under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law; OR current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in an administrative traineeship and eligible to transfer to an HPA traineeship under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law; OR current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above G13 and eligible to transfer to HPA Trainee 1 under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law; OR current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Senior Accountant G18 and eligible to transfer to HPA Trainee 2 under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law; OR current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above G11 and eligible to transfer to HPA Trainee 1 under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate would have progressively responsible professional work experience in the administrative support of an investigative office with excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills and a strong command of prioritization that supports efficient office operations. Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
Duties Description The Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) is an investigative office within the New York State Department of Health’s Division of Nutrition. This position will have responsibilities related to reviewing vendor applications for participation in the New York State Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). Responsibilities include: new vendor background checks, assist with field investigations and preparations for hearings, review WIC vendor application documents and contracts to ensure completeness, communicate with Vendor Management Agencies (VMA) regarding incomplete applications; verify the validity of Food Stamp Authorization Numbers; ensure that the vendor applicant is in compliance with other State Agencies; perform credit checks; perform paraprofessional duties and provide programmatic, technical, and investigative assistance to management, supervisory personnel and field staff. Research other sources of information for investigative purposes and technical support in the form of internet searches.
Additional Comments Permanent, full-time. Occasional Statewide travel, including overnights and travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation, is required.
