Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and three years of professional research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master’s Degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will exceed the minimum requirement of professional research experience and have extensive hands-on experience in all aspects of confocal microscopy, general microscopy, microscopy maintenance, sample preparation (cultured cells, tissues, etc) and post-acquisition morphometric analysis of images, animal behavior, demonstrated training in the proper use and disposal of radioactive materials and general lab management of shared equipment.

Duties Description • Management of microscopy facilities and maintenance of light
and confocal microscopes.
• Development of new imaging applications and protocols for
general use by investigators to facilitate optimal use of CDR
resources.
• Provide direction on the use of radioactive materials in
accordance with applicable licensure requirements.
• Instruction on basic and advanced uses of microscopes and
post-imaging handling and storage of data.
• Oversight of departmental instrumentation, including tissue
processing, film development, animal behavior and supervision
of users and use schedules, and interface with vendors/ support
individuals in the CDR and other NKI departments.
• General assistance to the Division Head in the management of
operations and initiatives that enhance the well-being and
productivity of investigators

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees.

This position is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $3,026.
