Minimum Qualifications Satisfactory completion of an approved two-year full-time course in the field of dietetics with emphasis on nutritional care or food service management.

Duties Description DUTIES (will include but not be limited to):

•Prepare and maintain patients’ dietary histories as part of their
nutritional care and overall treatment plans.

•Assist dietitians in implementing and monitoring individual eight
control programs prescribed by physicians.

•Assist professional dietitians in providing patients with proper
nutrition and special diets.

•Within the context of the prescribed diet plan and taking
information from a diet manual, provides dietary and nutritional
information to faculty staff, community based staff and to
patients and their families.

•Supervise kitchen and food service staff, including cooks by
providing advice and guidance in the preparation and serving of
food including special diets, and in the implementation of
sanitary standards.

•Inspects dining room and reports problems to the supervisor.

•Prepares orders and requisitions; assist in receiving and
maintaining records.

•Responsible for diet office, weekly menus and tickets.

•Assist dietitians in planning and making arrangements for
holiday and other special patient functions.

•Assist in the in-service training.

Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

•Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply proper standards of
cleanliness, sanitation and safety in relation to the storage,
preparation and serving of food.

•Ability to communicate advice and instructions concerning proper
diets and general nutrition to food service staff and to patients
and their families.

•Ability to prepare and maintain accurate, standard dietary
records and reports.

This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $3,026.
