Minimum Qualifications Eligible for a lateral transfer or eligible for a 70.1 transfer by having one year of permanent competitive service in an appropriate title. Appropriate titles include but are not limited to:
Office Assistant 1, SG-6*
Office Assistant 1 (Calculations), SG-6*
Office Assistant 1 (Customer Service), SG-6*
Office Assistant 1 (Customer Service Spanish Language), SG-6
Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding), SG-6*
Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding Spanish Language), SG-6
Office Assistant 1 (Stores/Mail), SG-6*

Candidates must be reachable on the current eligible list for Office Assistant 1 (Spanish Language)* in Albany. Candidates who are currently on the eligible list for the Office Assistant 1 (Spanish Language) in Albany need not submit an application for this posting unless they are applying directly as a result of the transfer qualifications listed above.
*In addition, in order to be considered for appointment to a Spanish language position, applicants will be required to demonstrate proficiency in Spanish at a level that will ensure their ability to adequately perform the duties of the position.
Duties Description These positions will be located in the SSI State Supplement Program's (SSP) Work Units Area and the Customer Support Center (CSC), within the Center for Employment and Economic Supports. The duties of these positions will include but not be limited to:
Work Unit
• Opening new SSP cases;
• Processing changes reported from various sources by updating client records and initiating the case actions;
• Calculating regular, manual and retroactive payments;
• Issuing all program related notices;
• Conducting re-determinations and initiating recoveries;
• Reviewing forms for completeness;
• Requesting information from recipients;
• Responding to recipient requests;
• Entering and retrieving information from the SSP computer system;
• Answering questions from recipients/providers/financial institutions;
• Faxing, mailing, and emailing recipients & vendors;
• Reviewing activity/exception reports.
OR
Customer Support Center (CSC)
• Answer the telephones following CSC Unit protocols;
• Enter data from call into SSP system;
• Initiate the mailing of documents to recipients/provider agencies;
• Escalate issues to supervisor/Work Units as needed;
• Direct recipients to internal or external resources as necessary (i.e., SSA, Medicaid, SNAP);
• Create work items for the work units;
• Assist other units as necessary;
• Communicate with all co-workers (both verbally and written);
• Return phone calls.
Additional Comments Full-time, contingent-permanent appointments will be made. Incumbents must demonstrate and pass a Spanish language test to show their ability to understand Spanish and to speak it fluently. If certified by Civil Service, mandatory reemployment list candidates must be considered first for appointment to this title.
