Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in logistics planning and management. Candidates must also demonstrate superior skills in oral and written communications. The preferred candidate will have experience with Education Policy.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department is seeking applicants for the position of Special Assistant. Under the direction of the Commissioner and the Executive Deputy Commissioner, the duties for this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• As Special Assistant to the Commissioner, prepare for and travel within New York State with the Commissioner to visits with schools, constituent groups, and stakeholders. Handle all follow up assignments related to these meetings.
• Work closely with the Executive Deputy Commissioner and the Deputy commissioners, collect and coordinate the topics for the monthly Board of Regents annotated meeting agenda while continually updating the annotated meeting agenda as changes are needed;
• Collect, review and proof all monthly Board of Regents items for Commissioner and Executive Deputy Commissioner review and signature for mailing to the Board members;
• Act as a liaison with the Secretary to the Board of Regents on the monthly Board of Regents mailing of the Board items;
• Update the Board of Regents website with the Board items and slide decks for the monthly meeting;
• Maintain a Board of Regents look ahead spreadsheet of monthly Board items;
• Work closely with the Secretary to the Board of Regents, facilitate the gathering of responses and tracking of requests that come into the Executive Deputy Commissioner from Board members. Draft responses to the Board members for Executive Deputy review;
• Coordinate, for the Executive Deputy Commissioner, all workgroups set up by the Board and track the progress of the workgroup and their assignments including establishing a project management timeline, closely monitoring the timeline and following up daily on the progress; and
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Deputy Commissioner.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is in the exempt class and serves at the discretion of the Commissioner of Education.Filling of this position is contingent on Division of the Budget approval. Travel will be required and could be a minimum of 10 days a month.

*Salary leads to $83,839 based on annual performance advances.
