Underwriter 1, Grade 18: Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, having one year of permanent competitive service in an appropriate title. Appropriate titles include but are not limited to:
Investigator 2 Comp Claims, Policyholder Services Representative 1, Claims Services Representative 1, Administrative Assistant, Senior Budgeting Analyst and Human Resources Specialist 1.
Duties Description As an Underwriter 1, the incumbent will be trained to support policyholder services in Disability Benefits. The Underwriter 1 would review disability benefit applications and current policyholder annual renewals to evaluate premium vs. claims performance to assign the annual premium rate modification based upon current claims performance. Underwriter 1's are responsible for maintaining policyholder maintenance for a group of policyholders that are assigned to their unit. Policyholder maintenance includes, but is not limited to: assignment of interest agreements, inclusions of interest, endorsements, payroll reporting, policy reviews and cancellations etc. The Underwriter 1 will also support the disability unit by timely responding to customers on-line, telephone and mail correspondence. The incumbent may be required to handle a variety of ancillary responsibilities in policyholder service which may include participating in project management teams.
