Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
A viable eligible list may not exist in this location and NYSDOT may be authorized to make a provisional appointment at this location. Candidates appointed provisionally must take and pass the next scheduled Civil Service examination, and be reachable on the resulting eligibility list, or their employment in the position (may have hold item) will end.

In order to be considered for provisionally appointment, candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher in Transportation Systems Planning, Transportation Systems Management, Transportation Planning, Engineering, Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Economics, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Operations Research, Quantitative Methods, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Public Administration.

Coursework Requirements

In addition, candidates must have 15 semester credit hours in transportation or highway planning, transportation or highway management, transportation or highway systems engineering, engineering technology, statistics, quantitative/analytical methods, operations research/management and/or computer modeling/science.

Duties Description Under the general direction of a Supervisor, the Transportation Analyst will:
• Assist local municipalities to progress transportation projects, Federal Aid Program, Multi-Modal Program, State Legislature Member Items, and FHWA Emergency Relief projects;
• Assist in preparing, checking, processing and tracking of off-system agreements for federally-aided and state-aided local transportation projects. Provide appropriate correspondence as needed;
• Assist in processing and tracking reimbursement requests for local projects in compliance with the State/Local project agreements and consultant agreements. Provide appropriate correspondence as needed;
• Review consultant agreements and supplemental agreements for compliance with federal rules and regulations. Provide appropriate correspondence as needed;
• Duties will include database management, production of correspondence, recordkeeping, outreach and coordination with area municipalities and other state agencies;
• Prepare, update and monitor highway design project schedules utilizing Project Management Scheduling software. Assisting Design Managers to keep projects on schedule and on budget;
• Assist with Public Meeting preparation, and outreach;
• Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
