Minimum Qualifications Job Specifics
The New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS) has embarked on a multi-year initiative, called the Redesign Project, that will require significant investment to redesign its business processes and legacy systems, replacing them with an integrated, customer focused, information system that facilitates its work.

When the Redesign Project is complete, NYSLRS will possess a modern information system, ready to meet the needs of its customers and stakeholders in a secure, flexible and stable environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Interested candidates must be currently reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming), SG-18, eligible list OR eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

52.6 Transfer

Candidates must have one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 16 or higher.

Duties Description Under the general direction of the Applications Developer Specialist, the Application Development staff would be responsible for but not limited to, the following activities:
• Develop on-line and batch mainframe-based applications using COBOL, DB2 and JCL;
• Develop batch programs and queries required to analyze existing data elements and to correct erroneous data;
• Develop Web and/or client server-based programs/applications;
• Ensure user requirements are met in the development of any software and/or ensures COTS software configures appropriately to meet the needs;
• Ensure that functional and technical designs are capable of integrating with existing systems and are developed accordingly to standards;
• Work cooperatively with the LOB Solution Vendors and QA/IV&V Vendor to design, construct and implement the system to best meet the needs of the users;
• Participate in the reviews of deliverables as required;
• Generate code for review by Applications Developer Specialist;
• Assist the Application Development Specialist in coordinating the following project activities, including, but not limited to:
- Data Cleansing;
- Data Classification;
- Data conversion, data bridging;
- Guidance for application development;
- Retirement of replaced systems.

• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Works well in a team environment.
• Participates in all phases of the System Development Life Cycle.
