Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, and/or economics and a minimum of three (3) years' experience in forensic accounting are required. The candidate must also be eligible to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. The position qualifies for CPA accreditation purposes. An active CPA license and/or Certified Forensic Examiner (CFE) credential is a plus. Candidates for the position of forensic accountant/auditor must possess excellent analytical, written, verbal, organizational, and time management skills. The candidate should be proficient with relevant spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
Duties Description The Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a forensic accountant/auditor for its Auto Insurance Fraud Unit (AIFU) in the New York City office. AIFU is a unit within the Criminal Enforcement and Financial Crimes Bureau that has statewide jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute criminal activity involving fraudulent automobile insurance claims, including any additional crimes uncovered during the course of an investigation. AIFU is comprised of dedicated attorneys, investigators, auditors, and analysts who conduct complex long-term criminal investigations. AIFU forensic accountants/auditors routinely testify before grand and trial juries. Many AIFU investigations have resulted in the conviction of (i) large scale criminal enterprises that utilize fraudulent medical mills with associated corrupt doctors, medical professionals, lawyers, runners, and hospital employees, (ii) staged and caused accident participants, and (iii) other individuals engaged in various criminal activity uncovered in related investigations.
