Minimum Qualifications Transfer:
Candidates must be permanent in the Mental Health Program Specialist 1 title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of the Grade 18 level. To be eligible for appointment, candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreation Therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling, Epidemiology, Special Education, Child and Family Studies, Speech Language Pathology, Audiology, Public Administration, Hospital Administration, or Health Administration. Possession of one of the degrees listed above allows for placement at the Trainee 1 level. Candidates with additional professional clinical or administrative experience in a behavioral health program may be eligible for advanced placement to Trainee 2 or the Grade 18 level. Advanced placement determinations are made on a case-by-case basis and are at the discretion of the appointing authority. A Master’s degree in any of the field outlined above may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) seeks qualified candidates to fill several Mental Health Program Specialist 1, G-18 positions in the Division of Adult Services, Sustained Engagement Support Unit. Specific duties of the positions include, but are not limited to:

•Utilize available data, including the PSYCKES system, to monitor connections with treatment providers and support services, including pharmacy utilization and emergency room visits.
•Follow up with outpatient providers to ensure appropriate outreach is in place to reconnect individuals who are disengaging with mental health treatment.
•Initiate re-engagement efforts through telephonic outreach to individuals in the community who have disengaged from mental health treatment.
•Utilize criminal justice databases to locate individuals who have disengaged or have been discharged from treatment and work with correctional facilities to re-engage individuals in treatment prior to release to the community.
