Minimum Qualifications • Four-year degree in forest health, environmental studies, natural resource management, invasive species ecology or a related discipline such as conservation biology plus 1 year in the field; or a combination of education and field experience where comparable knowledge and skills were acquired.
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of GIS, GPS, and ecological monitoring methods.

Duties Description The Invasive Species Project Coordinator is a long-term seasonal position based out of Minnewaska State Park Preserve in Gardiner, NY. This position is a core member of the OPRHP invasive species management team that guides invasive species management and forest health related matters on a statewide basis in State Parks and Sites through the OPRHP Environmental Management Bureau in Albany and has a wide range of responsibilities. Highlights include primary responsibility for the seasonal field staff, logistics, project development, coordination and prioritization, invasive species related forest health issues, report and grant writing, some office management and extensive travel. Nearly all of these tasks involve communicating closely with other OPRHP staff and partners. The project coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Invasive Species Control - Field Director. NOTE: Frequent travel is required; during the field season (April – Sept) travel averages 10 days a month.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordination, hiring and training of seasonal strike teams and forest health specialists.
• Assist in development and prioritization of invasive species projects.
• Work closely with seasonal staff regarding paperwork, logistics and data quality control.
• Development and implementation of the OPRHP Forest Health Strategy statewide.
• Extensive state travel for staff, contractor and project oversight and monitoring.
• Training of staff and volunteers on invasive species identification and control.
• Provide office assistance to the Invasive Species Control Director, including paperwork management, office and file organization.
• Field work of a wide variety can range from hiking to tree climbing.
• Statewide data management – GPS, GIS and iMap Invasives coordination/collaboration.
• Grant writing, implementation and administration.
• Create reports and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
• Authoring summary reports and program/Agency guidance documents (past examples include Best Management Practices and Hemlock Conservation Guidance).
• Participate as a core member of the agency invasive species management team.
• Contribute to the plans and activities of the statewide Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management network (PRISM), Shawangunk Ridge Biodiversity Partnership, and other interested collaborators and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with DEC Forest Health, PRISM's, NY Natural Heritage Program and other partners on invasive species priorities.

• Knowledge of invasive New York flora and fauna, including identification, habitat preferences and removal methods.
• Professional knowledge of invasive insects and forest health issues.
• Leadership experience in a field setting.
• Experience in organizing and training of staff and volunteers.
• Solid writing, oral, communication and analytical skills.
• Strong problem solving skills.
• The ability to work in rough terrain in a wide range of weather and climate conditions.
• A working knowledge or willingness to learn mountain/tree climbing skills including ropes and rigging.
